More than a slogan
We, the RvC, have been addressing the issue of racism since the creation of the HgR logo and, above all, have learned that 'Hockey Against Racism' must be more than a statement. We want to actively engage with this topic and learn from it in the future. After all, everyone is socialized with prejudice in some form. We recognize that racism is a societal problem and take this seriously. Accordingly, there is hardly a club that is free of racism. As initiators of 'Hockey Against Racism,' we now want to start with ourselves and raise awareness that racism occurs every day and everywhere. As a first step, five years later, we are jointly defining our RvC Code of Conduct. These serve as a guide for each and every individual and for us as a team for sportsmanlike and racism-free behavior towards our teammates and fellow citizens. We view the reflection of our behavior and privileges, as well as the following rules, as a continuous learning process.
We want to encourage you and other clubs to reflect on your own position, consider diverse perspectives, and address the issue of racism and your own thought and behavior patterns.
HaR Code of Conduct
Hockey must be a platform for respect and fairness. Discrimination and racism have no place in our clubs or in our society. Through our behavior, we ensure that we create an environment that encourages open communication and rebuttal when rules are not followed or violated. We are part of civil society and therefore take our responsibility seriously.
Fair Play: We adhere to the rules. We behave respectfully towards opponents, teammates, referees, and officials. Only the captain has the right to question and comment on referee decisions.
Respect and Dignity: We treat everyone, whether on or off the field, with dignity and respect. Discriminatory statements will not be tolerated. Ironic sporting insults or verbal self-defense remain expressly permitted. When we recognize racist behavior or remarks, we don't look away, but address them, both in ourselves and in others.
Openess: We ensure a safe environment where everything can be addressed. All members are encouraged to immediately and openly address concerns or incidents related to discrimination.
Awareness: We are aware of the responsibility of our actions, both internally and externally, and are actively committed to raising awareness and educating people about the topic of racism. We are open to addressing the topic of racism and our own thought and behavior patterns and privileges, and to continuously learning.
Being a role model: We lead by our behavior. We therefore bear the responsibility to be role models in our community. Each of us is a ray of Real.
By collectively committing to these Code of Conduct, we make our club a safe place where everyone feels respected, regardless of their origin, worldview, or identity, and everyone can feel safe and encouraged to express their opinions openly and honestly. Let us stand together to actively promote a culture of respect and fairness, and always uphold our foundation – Article 1 in conjunction with Article 2 of the Declaration of Human Rights.
